In the fall of 1996, South Charleston High School principal Bill Walton '62, Local School Improvement Council president Vicki Adkins Smith '71 and SCHS music teacher N. David Stern envisioned an alumni association for graduates of South Charleston and Loudon District High Schools. A call went out to class representative requesting class rosters and mailing lists. Forty-one classes were represented at the first meeting.

The South Charleston High School Alumni Association became a chartered organization for the purpose of helping alumni work together for the common good of both South Charleston High School and its alumni through newsletters, scholarships, school improvements, community service and special events.

Developed and maintained a database of contact records for over 18,000 graduates and 500+ faculty and staff. This database has become a central source of information for all classes.

Awarded over $30,000 in scholarships for deserving SCHS graduates

Published two alumni directories

Published a yearbook of highlights through 1999

Erected Alumni Memorial Fountain

Donated to disaster relief

Participated in community events

Sponsored two very successful Grand Reunions …and a third is on the calendar

Membership is open to anyone who graduated, attended or was on the faculty of South Charleston High School since its doors opened in 1926.
